5 Social Media Best Practices To Ensure Growth
Social media has become an attention game, where grabbing and holding onto people's attention feels as challenging as catching lightning in a bottle.
And that’s why as a marketer, you don't just want to keep up with the trends; you want to shine brighter and go beyond the ordinary.
Imagine having a toolbox filled with social media tricks that not only stop the scroll but keep your audience hooked.
I'll share five remarkable strategies that will give your brand a powerful edge.
1. Aspire for authenticity
One of the most important factors that influence how people perceive and trust your brand on social media is authenticity.
People want to see the real you, not a polished or fake version of your brand.
You can be authentic by:
Sharing your story and your purpose.
What makes you different from others? How do you help your customers or clients?
Showing behind-the-scenes is a big one for developing a connection with your audience
Engage in conversations and listen to feedback.
A great example of a brand that excels at authenticity on social media is Netflix.
Netflix creates a lot of content playing games with the cast, getting people to have a look at their more real side. Also, not to mention the witty comments netflix makes on platforms like X(twitter) and facebook.
2. Utilize trends
One of the toughest things is to get the initial eyeballs on your content. So instead of creating an absolutely new audience it is a better option to leverage the power of an existing trend which has an audience following it.
There’s a new topic that’s trending pretty much every week. So you get a lot of topics to choose form that you can create your content around
A real life example of this is from….yours truly ;)
I used to have a youtube shorts channel to develop an audience for this newsletter. Now although the content wasn’t upto the mark and I couldn't get many subscribers from it, I did learn a big thing.
I searched for trending topics on google trends and decided to make content around it. I made a video that featured the trend (travis scott at that time) in my niche (marketing)
The result? I got nearly 100x more views . I used to average around 30-60 views and suddenly I got 2.6k views in one video.
I also experienced something similar with a video I made on Barbie the movie marketing tactics when it was popular. It jumped straight to 2k views
3. Diversify your content & it’s distribution
Putting all your eggs in one basket can be a risky move for several reasons. Any social media app may lose its audience overnight or it might ban your account, there can be a thousand reasons but you get the gist. Build on multiple platforms
Another key factor is the quality and diversity of your actual content. Content is what attracts, educates, entertains, and engages your audience. It’s also what showcases your expertise, authority, and value proposition.
To diversify your content on social media, you need to:
Use different formats and mediums. Don’t limit yourself to just text or images, but also experiment with videos, stories, live streams, podcasts, infographics, quizzes, polls, etc.
Mix up your content types and goals. Don’t just post promotional or salesy content, but also share educational, inspirational, entertaining, informative, or user-generated content.
4. User-Generated Content Campaigns
People will always trust other people more than they trust your brand. That’s because other people are less likely to fake appraise the product and they don’t start becoming salesy
In short, user-generated content (UGC) creates authentic and trustworthy social proof, significantly increasing brand credibility and driving higher conversion rates.
Get People to Generate UGC by:
Incentivizing Participation: Offer rewards, recognition, or exclusive privileges to encourage users to share their experiences and creations related to your brand.
Create Shareable Moments: Craft experiences, products, or content that are inherently shareable, making it easy for users to showcase their affiliation with your brand.
Engage Your Audience: Foster a genuine connection with your followers by responding to comments, questions, and feedback, making them more likely to contribute to UGC.
5. Partner with other creators
One of the most effective ways to expand your reach and influence on social media is to partner with creators.
To partner with creators on social media, you need to:
Identify the right creators for your brand. Look for creators who share your values, vision, and audience, have a high level of trust and credibility, and create content that aligns with your brand goals and message.
Create mutually beneficial content or campaigns. Don’t just use the creators as a channel to promote your brand, but also provide value to their audience and support their growth. It can be a product review, a giveaway, a tutorial, a challenge, etc.
Promote and cross-promote. Don’t just rely on the creators to spread the word about your partnership, but also use your own platforms and channels to promote and cross-promote it. Encourage your audience to follow the creators, tag their friends, share their feedback, etc.
A great example of a brand that partners with creators on social media is Sephora. Sephora collaborates with beauty influencers and experts to create engaging and educational content for its followers, such as tutorials, reviews, tips, etc. Sephora also supports the creators by featuring them on its website, app, and stores.
And that concludes some of the best practices for a good social media marketing strategy. Utilizing these will definitely bring you results but you need to have patience. It’s a slow and long process so learn to enjoy it ;)
